About Psychotherapy and Counselling

While there are many similarities in psychotherapy and counselling it is important to identify and understand the different approaches.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a unique interpersonal healing relationship between client and therapist in which the primary focus is on symptoms of psychological disturbances, that create distress and problems in life. It is a professional clinical treatment in which relationship patterns, unconscious thoughts, feelings, wishes and beliefs can emerge and be explored and understood, enabling you to move forwards in your life with increased contentment, empowerment, freedom, happiness and awareness, and with a sense of choice and positive change. Psychotherapy is usually a longer process but may be short-term if required.

Counselling

Counselling tends to be a shorter process that focuses on an immediate problem and day-to-day issues in the here and now. It is used to resolve specific problems or concerns.
